Overview
Annex X to Implementing Regulation (EU) 2021/535 governs EU type-approval of motor vehicles with regard to vehicle access. The annex contains the model information document, the technical requirements and the model type-approval certificate.
The design of the vehicle type must permit entry to and exit from the passenger compartment in complete safety, and entrances must be constructed so that they can be used easily and without danger. The annex treats running boards, access steps and access arrangements separately by vehicle category. The Regulation has applied from 6 July 2022. Scope
Separate provisions apply to vehicles of category N2 with a maximum mass above 7.5 tonnes and category N3, and to other categories. Vehicles of categories M1 and N1, and N2 with a maximum mass not exceeding 7.5 tonnes, must have one or more running boards or access steps where the floor entrance height of the passenger compartment is higher than 600 mm above the ground.
