Overview
Annex V to Implementing Regulation (EU) 2021/535 governs EU type-approval of vehicles with regard to wheel guards. The annex contains the model information document, the technical requirements and the model type-approval certificate.
A wheel guard may consist of parts of the bodywork or of separate mudguards. It must be designed to protect road users, as far as possible, against thrown-up stones, mud, ice, snow and water, and to reduce the dangers of contact with rotating wheels. The Regulation has applied from 6 July 2022. This summary was checked against the consolidated version of 1 January 2025 on EUR-Lex.
Scope
The vehicle must have a wheel guard for each wheel. The Regulation as a whole concerns EU type-approval of vehicles of categories M, N and O.
