Overview
Annex III to Implementing Regulation (EU) 2021/535 governs EU type-approval of motor vehicles and their trailers with regard to the space for mounting and fixing front and rear registration plates. The annex contains the model information document, the definitions, the technical requirements on the shape and dimensions of the mounting space, and the model type-approval certificate.
The Regulation has applied from 6 July 2022. This summary was checked against the consolidated version of 1 January 2025 on EUR-Lex.
Scope
Vehicles must have a space for mounting and fixing rear registration plates. Motor vehicles of categories M and N also need a space for front plates, and vehicles of categories O3 and O4 need two separate rear plate spaces.
