Overview
Directive 2005/64/EC lays down the administrative and technical provisions for type-approval so that the component parts and materials of the vehicles it covers can be reused, recycled and recovered in the minimum percentages set out in its Annex I. It also has specific provisions to ensure that reusing component parts does not create safety or environmental hazards.
Vehicles must be constructed to be reusable and/or recyclable to a minimum of 85% by mass, and reusable and/or recoverable to a minimum of 95% by mass. This summary was checked against the consolidated version of 3 February 2009 on EUR-Lex.
Scope
It applies to vehicles of categories M1 and N1 and to new or reused component parts of such vehicles. It does not apply to special purpose vehicles, multi-stage built N1 vehicles whose base vehicle complies with the Directive, or vehicles produced in small series, without prejudice to Article 7.
The regulation applies to the following vehicle categories:
M
Passenger vehicles
N
